I have an original 460. 70k miles. runs great. Should I be concerned about the timing chain at this point. Getting ready to pull the radiator for a recore and was wondering if I should do the chain and gears while its all apart ?

the way to check a timing chain is put a breaker bar & socket on the crank shaft pull the distributor cap rotate the crank til the rotor starts to turn then turn the crank the other way til the rotor starts to move the other way, this will tell how much slop is in your timing chain a couple of degrees is ok. then you can be the judge

I know the early 302 motors had the plastic molded over pot metal cam gear but I can not recall if the 385 series engines were the same or not. If they are then I would change it for sure.
