So far on my '48 I have spent $1,400 on carb., raid., seats, hoses, center caps, and a wood steering wheel. Now that is $400 more then a third of what i paid for the truck. now being 15 and having no summer job thats alot of money...
And I was jsut wondering what every one else has put into there trucks?
Honestly that is not bad.
Do you have pic's. (haven't looked yet)
You can look at mine.
It is a rust bucket, but I paid 200 for the whole thing!
It is missing a tailgate, rear bumper isn't stock, shift ****, cover for the radio and speaker. (in the ones that it wasen't ordered in, optional)
The cheapest steering wheel I have found has been around 200, Tailgate with Ford logo 400.
They aren't realy cheap unless you need small parts.
Take your time and you will be happy with your end result. (because you built it, not someone else)
Even if you change it later.
good luck
The body looks to be in a lot better shape than mine and I am going to asume that is it running and driving which is also better. (unless you want stock) As far as what you have in it I would fix the fenders and cab of body damage and rust, ect... ect..
Then I would add new gauges and a floor shifter. I want to say a name brand but can't remeber off the top of my head.
Find a job doing whatever.
Anything is better than nothing, (even if it is at McDonalds) Still money in your pocket.
And a truck closer to being on the road.
In time you will have an award worthy pickup.
On my 1959 F-100 I paid $100 for truck my dad traded me a 1974 model frame for an old van that I had he also gave me a 302 and a c6 altogether there $250 in the truck now all we have to do is decab the 74 change the motor and do a lot of body work
I have $310 in my 1976 F-100 it is 302 c6 it is running and driving but I still have to buy tires
This is what the other trucks I have cost we have not done anything to them
1949 F-5 $125
1960 F-600 $150
B-61 mack $475
1963 C-10 $150
I was looking at your gallery; are you missing the inner fenders, or are they just not in the pictures? That looks like a custom radiator support, too?
I hope you aren't figuring to get rich selling off the truck when done. It generally doesn't work that way! But unless you do most of the work yourself, you have a fair ways to go, money wise.
I have close to $9,000.00 in my 51F1 $2,400.00 in the new bed and running boards alone. It still needs Interior and a good paint job, so I figure another $5,000.00 to $7,000.00 will probably get it looking good. The days when you could throw $50.00 at them and drive the hell out of them are long gone.

Just think of the consequences if this number ever fell into the hands of your snuggle-other.

Too true!! Besides...I stopped writing it down a long time ago. I know I have a lot less than folks who paid to have the work done.
It never ends, and you will never be finished. Cause nothing was built to last forever or you will want to change it. But that's half the fun in having something to work on.
And when your done you can say I built this truck, so kiss my a#@#!#@! And be proud of what you did cause a lot of people wouldn't even think about doing something so simple as changing their own oil!!
Give it time, (and a lot of money spent in the following years) You will have a beautiful truck in the end.
I also agree you don't make money off this unless you are working on someone elses ride for them. (not your buddies)
I generally agree with what PennDick said.... but my s.o. knows how deep I am and as long as I don't have to mortgage the house, it's cool... I had a rough idea that I could do it for 30k Started with a 400 dollar truck and a 400 engine/trans/rearend combo that was wrapped in a '75 Lincoln Mark IV.
Since then I've stacked up about 17k and here's how far I am now
really !!!..... but I have all the pieces except for interior/gauges/stereo
a few last engine parts...and the paint for the truck... everything else is bought, paid for and piled up in the rest of the garage with the frame...
will probably hit my mark or over just a little... considering inflation and a 10 year time line.... It's gonna be close
now..... since I've told you ... you know I'll have to kill you...
I've go $2500.00 in mine and just getting started.I still need a bed, running boards, and front fenders.Just to name a few.But I have alot of extra parts I won't need.Maybe just maybe I can save a few buck by trading parts.
ART.
