73-79 differences

Is there somewhere on this site where I can find out what the differences from one year to the next?
I know the 73-77 1/2 had divorced transfer cases, a different power steering system (frequent problem/part availability?), and obviously the front grille).

Any direction would be appreciated.

Engine options were different, too. The 360/390 were replaced by the 351M/400 in '77. F250 4x4 frame changed in 77 1/2. Disc brakes were introduced in '76 on F250. Some models saw substantial changes during the 70's, others very little.

Something changed with the trucks yearly.

The biggest changes were made in 1976, 1977 and 1978, with trim, grilles, and options changing etc...

The 1976 changed grilles, but the trim was like it's 1973 to 1975 cousins.

The 1977 although it's grille is the same as the 1976, had a Gas door, and race track trim, like the 1978s and 1979s.

The 1973, early 74, taillight housings are metal, and are covered with a red seperable lens and gasket simular to the 1967, to 1972 trucks and is held on with four screws. The 1973 and early 74 front turn signal housings are also metal, with a clear seperable lens and rubber gasket. The sockets are part of the housing and are not removable, and seperating the lens from the housing is how you change the bulbs.

Circa 1974 & 1/2 to 1979 taillights have plastic housings, the lens and housing are one unit, and the whole assymbly is held on with only 2 screws. The sockets are removable from the housing to retrieve the bulbs. Front turnsignal lenses simular.

Circa 1976.5, the front turnsignal lens changes from clear to amber.

Swap parts with ECONOLINES.

There are exceptions, but...

Instrument clusters and tailights, and side markers are interchangeable with the Econoline van of the same year. Parts can interchange up to 1991 econoline vans with these trucks with minor to moderate rewiring of cluster connectors, etc...

Window Crank Handles...

Inside door handles and arm rests will interchange with the 1968 to 1972, but that's another forum.

-------

Try looking at

http://www.motorcraft.com

Put a Ford part number into the database, and if it's in their database, they have a interchage guide, that tells you what parts are interchangeable with what.

Good resource.

Most U-Pull-it wrecking yards will print you out an interchange guide for the part you are looking for. You will be surprised at some of the vehicles that your truck interchanges with.

Hope this helps.
