general towing

just reading on here about towing problems/questions
as a truckdriver with over 1.5 million accident free miles i will give some general towing advice.

1. never pull more than what the truck is rated for, not even just 1 mile.
2. dont speed, the faster you go the longer it takes to stop
3. make darn sure the towing vehicle brakes are in top notch condition and use trailer brakes if its equipped.
4.check all your tires for maxium load rating and dont exceed it.
5. properly balance the load
6. make sure your hitch is rated for the weight you have on it and you are towing
7.be aware that if you are hauling more than you are factory rated for and are involved in an accident YOU may be sued.
8. a vehicle that is raised will tow different than one that is "stock"
9. also be aware in some state the speed limit for a vehicle pulling a trailer is less than the posted limit( in illionis it is 55 for ALL vehicles towing a trailer) in michigan a vehicle towing a 2 axle trailer is 65 max

what brought this on was reading an article about a man who was towing more than his truck was rated for and lost control and had an accident. he was sued and found liable for the accident to the tune of 1.8 million dollars. insurance would not cover it because he was using his vehicle improperly and for more than it was rated for. he has lost everything and is facing manslaughter charges because of a death in this accident.

so please all you great guys and gals when you are gonna tow something remember the rules and be safe.

Will you PLEASE tell me where I can find this article? Where & when did this happen? What country was it in? Can you give us some more details?

I was so hopeing this wasn't just another troal with his made up BS.
With the 1000's of trucks over the GVWR & GCWR you would think SOMEONE could find ONE lawsuit someplace.

This was brought up before. I searched the Internet and could not find one lawsuit about the GVWR being over for a light truck when that was mentioned earlier. If someone has a real story, a link would be appreciated by the both of us.

Well.... I just waded through ALL 11 pages of that link & some of the links inside that.
All I found was another unsupported story where the poster even admitted that he didn't tell the truth about the insurance not paying.
Even after being asked more then once, as here on this post, He wouldn't give ANY information that can be checked. Not the name of the person involved, not the court that it supposedly happened. Absolutely nothing that can be verified. Just like this one.

I will ask again....... Please give me the information I need to PROVE that this actually happened.

Until then... I still believe it is nothing but wishfully thinking on somebodies part.
