Has anyone experienced a whistle from the a/c vents when first accelerating with the a/c on on very humid days? If so have you brought it to the attention of the dealer?
This was discussed awhile back - I think Ford calls it A/C "Hoot", but don't remember if there's a TSB, Customer Satisfaction Fix, or if Ford is still working on it.
I believe that there is a fix for it... I think it involves replacing the evaporator case... your dealer should be able to look it up... my 2002 does it on occasion when first starting from a full stop for about 2 seconds, on a hot day.. but, of course, it wasn't solved while I had the truck in warranty, and I'm not too keen on them tearing my truck apart for a minor (in my case, anyway) annoyance.
My 05 "Whistles" all the time. It doesn't matter if it's humid (sp) or dry... but it bugs me that I lose power until at least 3K RPMs, then the whistling goes away! Anybody have this problem and fix it so that your gaining that, lost, power back?
I have 2004 Explorer with whistling noise when AC is on - only intermittent of course. They have taken my dash apart twice and followed a service bulletin to seal a plenum. Nothing has fixed it. I also have a terrible whistle in the winter when it is about 20 degrees out with acceleration between 40 and 60 mph. They have repaired different things in the engine but have not been able to get rid of the noise. Finally the owner of the dealer did some research and found out that the noise in the winter is from my alternator (a bearing is not sitting correctly). They tell me the acclerator works fine - just makes this noise. No one ever connected the noise in the winter with noise from the AC. I am guessing they are related.
The dealer gave me a new acclerator even though there was a chance that it was still a faulty alternator (Ford actually needs to make brand new alternators to correct the problem - in the meantime the shelves are full of faulty ones). I still have the whistling noise in the winter - though it is much higher pitched and happens at speeds between 20 and 40 mph. I have not had the noise with my AC yet this summer - leading me to believe that it left with my original alternator.
I am at the dealer for service regularly (as I have more than just whistling problems) and last I checked - JUNE 2006- Ford had still not made any new alternators to replace the faulty ones.
Hope this helps.

I had the whistling in the winter on my 04 Explorer. They said it was the alternator and once it was replaced, the problem was gone. I had it done in the winter so I was able to see that it was truly fixed. As far as the hoot from the a/c, I think mine might do that. I had this particular noise checked out the first year I had the truck and they told me it was normal. Since it doesn't bother me and the truck runs good (now with 30K miles), I'm not gonna worry about it.
