Hi there guys, I have just bought an 06 F250, and seriously, it has the worst lighting I have ever known. You can barely see up the road, out on backroads at night. Our Australian lights are the same as your 03 SD's so what can I do?
I am pretty keen on converting it all to 06 HD lights grille etc, but being in Australia, it could prove somewhat challenging.
Any ideas?
You could try replacing the stock bulbs with some Sylvainia Silverstars and an upgraded headlight harness. There are several sponsors that sell both and would help you. The conversion is a different story. Your biggest decision is cutting the header panel or swapping out the panel and lights.
I'm not sure what's going on - if you have an 06 SD in Australia it should have 06 lights - unless of course you bought the Brazilian truck (Ford Australia model?) which is a crock and isn't an 06 anyhow. If that's the case the best fix is to convert the lights to HID bulbs - www.xenonoz.com.au
Are they dim or just not directed out far enough? Have you checked to see if they are out of alignment?
Well the alignment is good, but they are dim, and dont seem to project as far as my other Falcons here. They look hust like the old lights in my 84 F250.
I would have thought for such a big truck, they would be better.
Are the later ones better?
In 05 (American model) they improved them... but you are right the stock ones suck - especially compared to any Australian built vehicle.
You are not wrong. I have 2 98 XR8's here, and they have the smallest headlights ever fitted to an Australian vehicle, and not known for being well lit, but they smoke the Truck for lighting. I live in a semi rural area, where there is no street lighting, and its not the best.
I think later lights could be the go?????
Am I to assume they are sealed beam 6054 types then (glass, and all in one unit vs. seperate plastic lens and then the bulb)? There are plenty of options that are cheaper than the NA '06 conversion if that's the case. Unless you want the looks I really haven't been impressed with my grandfathers '06 SD lights either. They are a little better than his '04 but not worth the $$ to upgrade considering the other possibilities.
I believe we have diff. regulations regarding light distribution. Our lights are required to shine a certain amount 'up' to light-up overhead road signs, so some of it is lost. I know much of the world does not require this.
If you don't mind the looks, the sealed beam is the way to go IMO (assuming that's what you have). The plastic type will get yellowed/fogged eventually and you'll still have the NA distribution (not good compared to most places). A well designed sealed beam will be just as good, if not better.
Great lights the Predators, was looking at putting 2 spreads, and a pencil on actually. I dont have any form of bar on it yet, only had it 2 weeks today...lol, 2300k and loving it though. Still looking through every american site I can find to look whats available.
I actually just picked up some 20's of an 05 Harley F250. Should look good.
Show us some pics of yours mate.
I will go take some pics now of mine and post them
Exactly what lights do you have? The 06 Super Duty's here, if it's a base model XL, still use the old single sealed beam glass lamp. This is on the work trucks with the gray bumper/grill. Is this what you have?
My 01 Lariat has the passenger light burned out and honestly I can't tell. That's how bright the other one is. My 01 lights are the old style diamond cut lenses, not the clear ones like the 02/03's.
