My power steering is making noises that I can't seem to track down so far.
I noticed a few weeks ago that when I turned the wheel to the left, I'd get "click-click-click" and a bunch of other ugly noises associated with it. Turning to the right doesn't make the noise. It's like a hollow clicking sound (best I can describe it).
It's working and actually moving the wheels fine but it just makes noise. The noise has occured when not turning the wheel and sitting idle but not often. And sometimes the noise isn't there at all - it comes and goes...
So I figured my P/S pump was shot and I just swapped it out with another one I had and the noise is still there. I havn't investigated further yet but it's definitely left me scratching my head....
Well I found the fluid line to the steering box was leaking at the fitting so I switched out the fitting with the one off the other pump and it didn't make the noise or leak - but I havn't driven it yet or used it enough to know whether or not the sound went away. Only time will tell. Would be strange if it did go away but I'd be happy.
i looked it up in the troubleshooting section of the ford manual and could not find anything except to bleed the air out. maybe the leak was allowing air in.
