Question Engine oil in air filter box

98 F150, 5.4L, when I went to change the air filter there was oil in the "tube" on the motor side of the MAF? sensor. I was wondering how it would get in there.

Thanks

Yes, the only way for oil to get that far from the motor is through the pcv valve. There is a hose (the lower one, I think), that is connected to your airbox from you pcv valve. Your pcv valve might be spitting oil from the valve covers into the box. Replace the pcv valve (only a couple bucks) and see if it stops. If it doesn't, find the necessary gaskets near the pcv valve and inspect for cracks in the valve cover.

That oil might have fouled up the MAF and/or the AIT sensor, might be a good idea to clean them. (the MAF is delicate, follow the directions in the FAQ post at the top of this forum)
