I was on the highway last night and was late meeting loudfords to make a trade...I have an 02 screw 4x4 lariat fx4...I believe it has 3.55 gears...they are stock anyways...so my question is...at 100MPH where the speedometer stops reading..I was at 2750 RPM's....how fast was I going by the time the RPM's made it to 3600? Just curious...I have no idea how to calculate the estimated speed by the time it got to that RPM...any one have an idea and or know the formula so i can do the math?....
I was late and the road was completely wide open...in case some of you think I'm a nut..lol Wouldn't do that if there were other cars around...not in a truck anyways...
lol...I don't usually go that fast so getting one wouldn't be useful...borrowing one would but when you plan to do it you get caught...but I knew I was gonna get that answer from at least one of you..hahah
I've GPS'd mine at 112 and I think 115 would have been possible. Your gearing is higher than mine and you are probably make a horse or two more than me.
GPS units have really gone down in price and once you have one you'll find out how much you use it especially if you travel a lot.
yeah...I actually need to get one now that I think about it for my boat when the motor is finished...(should be in a week or so) so it may be a good investment....
At 3600 rpms with a 4R70 in OD you'd be doin 138 mph. Got it from here and seems to be pretty accurate. I plugged in tire diameter of 32, 4th gear .7:1, and final drive of 3.55.
Think about it, my truck, drivetrain wise, is identical to yours, gears and all. At 70 mph, im pullin just about 2k even. You said at 2750, you were at 100, 750 rpms for 30 mph. Add another 850 rpm's to that, comes out to around 33 or 34 mph... If you were at that rpm, you would be doin at least 130
Try putting the cluster into the diagnostic mode by holding the odometer button down while you turn the ignition on, scroll through till you get to the MPH display, this will be a digital readout of your speed, it may countinue to show your speed after the gauge runs out of room. Easier then finding a GPS.

LOL..I didn't know it had that option...lol I am going to have to try that..and just leave it on....see if it works beyond the speedo cut off....
(diff ratio x trans ratio x trans case ratio x 336) / (rpm x tire dia) = mph
(3.55 x.7 x 1 x 336 = 834.96) / (3600 x 32 = 115200) = 137.970
modify for actual tire height
