I need help wiring my electronic ignition off of a 79' to the 71' Im working on. The red and white wire going into the module , where do they come from a 71'
You will have to run a new wire from the fuse box to the red module wire.
The 71 coil + wire has a resistor in the wire(which you do need to leave in) but the red module wire needs a full 12 volt key on supply, so you have to go to the fuse box, or run a new wire right to the ignition switch terminal.
The white wire needs to run over to the starter relay. Your starter relay should have two small terminals labeled "s" and "i". The "i" should already have a wire hooked to it going to the coil +(you need this also, leave it). The wire on the "s" terminal comes from the neutral safety switch and the ignition switch, and has 12 volts in cranking mode only. You need to hook the white wire to the "s". If 12 volts is applied to the white wire during cranking, the module will retard the timing which makes the engine easier to turn over.
I am looking at my Haynes manual(I know you hate these, but it's all I got), at the power dist wiring 1982 and 1983. The module is fed by the #20, white/lightblue wire. In this diagram, looking at the ignition switch, all of the wipers are shown as arrows, but the one that feeds the white/lightblue is shown as a wide piece on the end of the wiper. This leads me to believe the wiper is touching and giving power to the white/lightblue in the start position as well as the run position. Agree?
I do not have any Haynes manuals but here is a page out of the Ford 1983 F100/350 & Bronco Electrical & Vacuum Trouble-Shooting Manual. I now see that power does go to the Red wire through the Resistance Wire. So I guess it is hot, thanks.
