I was working on my truck today and I had the axle shaft out. Well, I seemed to forget how much to tighten it and I overtightened one of the bolts... SNAP! @#%!*@&$!!!
The bolt that snapped was one of the 8 bolts that hold the axle shaft in. I took the axle back out and now I'm not sure how to get this bolt out. Any ideas? Its just a little too far in to be able to get a set of pliers on it.
I am going to dig out my torque wrench... any idea how tight these bolts are supposed to be? Thanks in advace!
Hi James, the thing that comes to mind is drill out the bolt, then use an e-z out. Take one of the other bolts so you can get the correct replacement bolt. I would stuff a shop rag in the hub so you do not get any metal shavings in there.
Wayne,
I was actually able to carefully spin the bolt out by gently tapping it with a screw driver... I guess I was pretty lucky. I have the new bolt in... now my only question is how much to torque the bolts down. Does anyone have any ideas?
