Excursion axle problem

I have a 2005 excursion diesel. I was trying to tow someone out of the sand and broke the front driverside stub axle. It is a 30 spline end. Anyone know of a good place to get one? I searched ebay and found a few 30 spline stubs but when I asked them if they are the same they responded that they wont work. How hard is this to change?

The problem isn't how hard it is to change. The problem is installing the vacuum hub seal back into the knuckle. You need a special tool to install them on the axle and this same tool has a larger flange that allows you to finish the install in the knuckle.

I did have the local ford dealer press the seals on the axles for me and I got them in the knuckle with out the tool but I also switched to manual lock outs so I was not to worried about the sealing of the seal which I am sure is sealed more than enough to keep dirt and grim out.

I have since bought the tool because I need to replace the seals when installing new ball joints.

As for buying a new shaft I would say Ford is your best bet. There aren't to many pieces parts of these axle floating around yet. You may find a complete axle but very unlikely to find and used axle shafts but it can't hurt to shop around and ask.
