Transmission Problems - Need Advice
Thanks to all who keep this site going. I'm a female educator, not a mechanic. I've learned SO much in the hours that I have spent reading on this site. My husband now calls me the computer mechanic.
I need advice today.
I have an '01 EB Expedition.
This is what has been going on
Results:
We took off VSS and cleaned it and reinserted it (tried to change it, but Advanced Auto gave us wrong part). We tried to take it for test drive and realized I had no reverse. Had it towed to Ford. They say the VSS is bad and the torque convertor is bad. They say we must get a rebuild. Cost $3272. We called American Transmission. They say we must get a rebuild. Cost $1925 with 12,000 mi/12 mo warranty plus $65 towing fee from Ford.
Yes, we have the leaky windshield syndrome.
Any advice would be appreciated.

- noise in front end when stopping fast
- slight vibration when first starting out
- trouble shifting
- sometimes had to shift manually
- OD light sometimes blinking
- no codes would show up - no reading would show up at all (tried at Advanced Auto and Auto Zone)

- better shifting for a couple of days, but not perfect
- no more OD light flashing
