As you know here in CA gas prices are up to ovefr 3 bucks a gallon . Well my 390 gets about 10 miles per gallon on a good day. Probably due to its a 4x4. I am in dire straights. I cannot afford to run the 390 anymore. The truck just sits in the driveway. I was looking for options on engine swaps -you know for something that gets better mpg's . I might consider a 7.3 L diesel. But can anyone tell me if they have swapped in a 5.0 or 302 in place of the FE block in their 67-72 f100 4x4? I kow it sounds crazy but if I can get at least 16-20 mpg. I might do it. Otherwise it will sit and rot in my driveway. Thanks
My $.02's - Leave it as it is. It will cost you more to swap than you may experience in savings. The diesel is expensive and the 302 will probably be underpowered. My wife's truck with 2002 technology gets 18 on a great day, it's a truck, not an aerodynamic 4-6 cylinder car, my expectations are not high for gas mileage....
