Don't get a 5.7 they blow gaskets like crazy I'm told. My dad hasn't had much problems with a 1950 Chevrolet with a 5.7 diesel but under a load is when they go I'm told.
Well Ive heard that too, but ive also heard that theres a fix for them, something to do with changind the heads or head bolts. Plus a 6.2 diesel is so damn hard to find at a decent price!
Yes that is me with the diesel 5.7 It belonged to a friend who totaled the truck and we were looking for another truck to put it in. Problem was he had another accident with a serious head injury. So he gave me the motor for my troubles with it here. It has 80,000 on the rebuild he said. Man I sure would like to get it out of my shop. It has been sitting here for a couple of years now.
Remember it says or best.
So would it bolt up to a regular 350 tranny? The reason why I am asking is because I want to get a chevy camper van, and put a diesel motor in it so it is half @ssed economical to drive.
Yes I beleive it would bolt onto a 350 auto. It still currently has the tranny on it, but it slips every so often. I think it has a turbo 350 on the motor. I also think a turbo 400 tranny will bolt onto it.
Does your tranny have the peak at the top of the tranny housing or does it have the valley dip between the two outside bolts at the top. That is the only difference I think. This one I believe has the valley.
