Exclamation tranny question

I just changed the oil in the 5 speed manual transmission on my 1994 f350. It seems that there was alot more oil that came out than I put in(about 3.0 quarts). I simply cannot put any more oil into the trannny without it leaking from the side port. Does this sound ok? A friend said these ZF trannies only take about 6.0 Pints of oil. Is this ok?

Was it rebuilt? Someone else might have over filled it when repairing it when it was out of the truck? Pevious owner? Have you changed it before sence you've owned it?

You got me, I don't really know.

Just fill to the bottom of the plug. Thats what it calls for I believe.

3.38 quarts of fluid for an S 5-42.
3.2 liters for the S 5-47.

This is according to the ZF website.

3.2 liters is not a lot of oil and that is why you want to change the oil more often. The oil takes a heck of a beating. My oil on my 93 smelled burned and was brown when I changed it at 100k. My next change will be a lot sooner.
