i know most of you guys run your trucks with no muffler, but i live in southern california. no muffler is not an option. i'm having a muffler shop build me a 3" exhaust system starting with a new y-pipe.
i want something significantly louder than stock, but not so loud that it's obnoxious. the cops down here seem to have nothing other to do than bust kids for having loud trucks.
i've been looking at flowmaster 40's and 50's, but am not sure if they're compatible with diesels.
can anyone recommend a brand and model that will suit what i'm looking for? i appreciate the help in advance.
Sean, I have dual 3inch exhaust, it sounds like a Harley when I punch around 1800 rpm...I had them installed at a muffler shop that does a lot of custom work. Check muffler shops around your area to see who does a lot of diesel work, they would be your best bet. lol
i'm thinking screw it, i'm just going to get new y-pipes that actually flow, and then 3 1/2" the rest of the way back with no muffler. if i get a ticket, it's just a fix-it ticket and i have to get a new one.
is a diesel with no muffler louder than say a big block chevy with exhaust on it?
I just put a 4" straight pipe from the Y to the back of the transfer case and then it 45degrees out to in front of the back tire. I have no muffler or anything just straight. A friend of mine has a 350 chevy with duals and glasspacks and even with his going all the way back to the bumper his is still louder than mine. Mines loud but his I wouldn't even think of driving into town mostly for my own hearings sake.
