I have a 2000 F-250 (with the 5.4) that has no running lights or dash lights. Headlights, brake lights & turn signals all work. I checked all fuses (none blown) & can't find any wiring problems. I was told Ford has had problems with their headlight switches, so I bought one. Can I install this myself or am I in danger of blowing airbags, etc.? I was told by a mechanic the job will take 3 hours??
I looked in the manual, and there appears to be nothing to it. Looks like you pry the bezel out of the instrument panel and take the switch out. Here's what the manual says;
Lamp Switch —Headlamp
Removal and Installation
Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information; refer to Section 414-01
Remove the headlamp switch from the instrument panel.
Disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the headlamp switch.
...that's pretty much what I thought...a fifteen minute job...but what do you think that mechanic would have been doing for the other 2-3/4 hrs? Probably the same thing the salesmen do when they have to "Go talk to the sales manager."
