Found a 1994 Power stroke F250 Ex Cab 4x4 ZF5 with 201000 on it. Seemed to run good. Is this a lot of miles. has a goosneck ball so i assume it's done some pulling. Drove out good. Has a new clutch but needs a slave clyinder. how hard are these to install? he said i could get it for 4750dollars. Is this alot of miles. What kind of problems can i expect with this many miles?
If care has been taken, then 300k is expected and possibly more. The slave is concentric which requires pulling the trans.
Take off the sticks.
Drop the drive shafts.
Drop the TC.
Pull the hydraulic line.
Pull the trans.
Two screws hold the slave ('bout $80ish).
Check the clutch/flywheel while you are there. If it looks worn, now is the time to do it. Seriously, you are already there.
Check the clutch/flywheel while you are there.

Did I mention Check the clutch/flywheel while you are there?
Then reverse.

This can be done in an evening if you have the tools and a trustworthy buddy. The ZF is very heavy (400ish wet?) and you will want a hand with that. If everything else looks good, this should be one evening and under $100.
$4750 seems like a steal to a guy in Cincinnati lokking to spend $8500ish on the same truck. Is it in good shape? The powertrain is build for abuse and the 7.3 and ZF are both famed for their ability to last a lifetime being beat-up.
Hope this helps,
Mike

For the most part it's in good shape. The drivers seat is a little beat up. the plastic that holds the lumbar switch is cracked and the switch just kind of hangs there but other than that looks pretty good. I noticed the oil pan was a little wet but the top of the motor looked dry. it drove really well. the other thing it needs is a set of manual lock out hubs. It's got the auto hubs in it and i couldn't get it to lock. If would thump and i would let off and get on it and it would thump again. he was asking $5995 and he dropped to 4750. THat's still alot of miles on the drivetrain i think but it's nothing that can't be rebuilt over time. How are these trucks to start in the winter time? It gets cold up here and the last diesel i had started like crap in the cold. I'm a little scared to buy another one no matter what brand it is. there's nothing that makes me more unhappy than a truck that don't start.
If your glow plug system is in good working order these trucks will crank in the single digits with no problems, you may have to go through two glow plug warm up cycles. They also have block heaters that you plug into a 110 outlet that heats the coolant.
Slave cylinder? I thought that everything with a ZF trans had the same external slave cylinders and only the smaller gas engines had the concentric slave cylinder. To replace external, pull the pin, remove the line, pry off the clip retainer and then reverse to install after filling the slave cylinder with fluid and bleeding the air from it.
If the DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel) has not been replaced, it could be bad and not the slave clyinder. Ask if it has been replaced with a SMF (Singe Mass Flywheel) conversion and what make. With that many miles it should have already been replaced, but you never know.
As far as high mileage, some PSD that are well maintained have over 400 to 500 thousand miles on them. 300 to 400 K is about normal.

You could be right. I am coming from the gas world and am just starting into the 444.
