"Plug Change" Notes from another one
Notes: 2001 with 59,000 miles - It took me @ 4 hrs total, but I made 2 additional trips to the parts store for stuff I thought I had, 7mm socket and dielectric grease. Will be @2 hrs next time.
Last 2 plugs on passenger side almost finger tight, 2 on driver side were not near as tight as the rest.
All the plugs looked fine, but were all gapped to @60 now. Definitely time to change.
Amazing how much stuff gets into the plug holes, I ended up putting a 1/2 hose on the end of my shop vac so I could vacuum and blow them out. Might be a good idea to wear goggles as the fine sand flies every where including into the TB that made me clean it out also.
My intake plume where it hooked to the throttle body was VERY LOSE and just fell off when I undid the other end. May want to check yours to make sure it is tight.
Definite increase in performance and gas mileage noted.
All in all an easy job thanks to the great write up, despite the last hole on the left(passenger side).
I found 3 loose plugs on his motor. Two on the right and one on the left. These plugs had also been loose for some time as they were brown with exhaust.
I think if people follow the good advice given out on this board about checking the plugs and not leaving them in for 100K there would be no spark plug blow outs. Or at least far less.
