What else can I do

I own a 2001 expedition. It has about 78k miles on it. I've installed the Hypertech computer chip, Granatelli high performance mass air flow sensor, Helix power tower throttlebody spacer, K&N Generation II fuel injection kit, BBK underdrive pulley kit, and a BBK high performance throttlebody and had dual exhaust installed. This truck runs great, but when the temp gets to 95 degrees or hotter Pueblo CO typical summer temps, it idles rough, there no smooth accelleration, it bogs down and feels like theres a transmission problem "shifts real hard". AAMCO did a complete rebuild last year. It runs so terrible you don,t even want to drive it. When it cools down at about 1AM it goes right back to normal and runs great. Any suggestions I always have an open mind.

Hey, i have a quick question for ya. Did you notice any improvement from the tb spacer? I want to buy one but i dont think i should because people speculate that it provides no gains in HP or MPG? BTW I also have the BBK underdrive pulley kit and a Volant cool air intake, and Gibson dual exhaust, and this time of year I can feel my truck idling roughly. I believe this is due to the fact thet the new BBK crank pulley doesnt have a rubber balance ring built into it. When I called the techs at BBK they told me that a side effect of installing these pulleys may produce a slightly rougher idle. I dont really kniow what to tell you about the tranny other than maybe the fluid is somehow overheating given the rise in ambient temp?? Im sure that someone will chime in with some advice.
One last thing, your truck seems to be pretty modified. I wonder what you run in the quarter(if you ever took it to the strip)? I ask because I am gonna run my truck at the strip with the current mods so i was intersted in the difference.

I had an '01 with the Gen II FIPK with the same power issues. The problem is that those intakes get warm air from the engine compartment...and it's real hot in there in during the summer. It got to the point where in the summers
(houston, TX summers) I'd put the stock intake in b/c it get's air from the fender well. There's also a TSB on this that requires some PCM reprogramming by the dealer.

Engine - Lacks Power in High Temperatures
Article No.

^ DRIVEABILITY - ENGINE LACKS POWER WHEN
OPERATING IN HIGH AMBIENT TEMPERATURES
ABOVE 38C (100F) - VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH
5.4L ENGINE ONLY

^ ENGINE - 5.4L - ENGINE LACKS POWER WHEN
OPERATING IN HIGH AMBIENT TEMPERATURES
ABOVE 38C (100F)

FORD:
2000-2002 EXPEDITION, F-150

ISSUE

Some vehicles equipped with the 5.4L-2V engine may exhibit a lack of power condition when operating in ambient temperatures above 38°C (100 °F). This may be caused by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) calibration which retards the ignition timing to prevent detonation when the Inlet Air Temperature (IAT) reaches 60°C (140 °F) or above. This may be more pronounced during stop-and-go driving.

ACTION

Verify the condition. Reprogram the PCM with the latest calibration and on 2000 and 2001 F-150's, install body plugs behind Coolant Overflow Bottle if missing. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

For 2000-2002 F-150's and Expeditions equipped with a 5.4L 2V engine, if a lack of power occurs only when the IAT is above 60°C (140°F), reprogram the PCM to the latest level calibration as shown.

For 2000 and 2001 F150's, install Body Plugs (383181-S and N807093-S) behind the Coolant Overflow Bottle. Refer to Figure 1 for location and plug button installation. These plugs will reduce the engine compartment heat moving into the air cleaner inlet area.

Body Plug Installation

1. Remove air cleaner inlet. Refer to Section 303-12.

2. Remove jack handle.

3. Remove upper radiator sight shield.

4. Disconnect radiator overflow hose from radiator to degas bottle.

5. Position degas bottle away from body plug hole area.

6. Install body plugs in location shown in illustration.

7. Position back degas bottle Torque to 9 N.m (80 Lb-in).

8. Connect radiator overflow hose.

9. Install upper radiator sight shield.

10. Install jack handle.

11. Install air cleaner inlet. Refer to Section 303-12.

Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal (FPS 8262 obtainable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.

I would agree that your intake is using engine compartment air. One of the guys on here mentioned his performance intake used the stock ducting and it worked great but can't remember what brand.
