Would You Buy Another?

I currently own a 7.3 that I am very pleased with but am thinking of buying a brand new 6.0 in the next few days. So my question for the regular readers of the 6.0 forum is. Would you buy another one today?

Markadeck, I don't want to flame my fellow FTE members but I have to say, no chance in hell would I buy another 6.0. That being said, I have a love hate relationship with my 2005 F-350 6.0. It pulls my 5evr like a twelve legged mule, when it's running. However my father has a 2002 F-350 7.3 with the works from Banks and he has never had a problem. This is the truck I can count on to come to my rescue when the 2005 craps out (three times while pulling the trailer) and his mileage is nearly double what I get. Enough said?

I went from a normally asperated 7.3 ( '92) to a 2005 6.0 PSD. As my 7.3 didn't have a turbo, I put on the Banks system. Loved the truck and it would pull the Empire State Building if laid on its side in a cradle w/ wheels. My 6.0 can also do that....except at a MUCH higher rate of speed !! And more comfortabily. I quickly became one of those with the 6.0 grin on my face!! I wouldn't hesitate to do it again even if I could go back in time knowing what I know now.

Markadeck, Based on the anticipated price increase of the 6.4 engine, and the fact it is brand new, I would get a 6.0 now. Beat the price increase, have only one instead of two turbos, and Ford is really dealing right now with those low/no interest loans. I consider my 6.0 to be my last diesel, which is one reason I bought it. Times are changing such it will be too expensive to buy and then own just to haul the toy hauler 4 times a year. In 10K miles, the only problem I have had is the typical anticipated dreaded oil leaks. I love the truck and actually miss driving it during the week when I take the bus to work. I find excuses on weekends to drive it, just so I can hear it roar and the turbo wind up. BTW, the 6.0 will run on any diesel...the 6.4 can only run on the new super low sulfer diesel due out this fall. This is another major reason to get the 6.0!

Also don't wait for the 07 as they have to use ULSD fuel only and for awhile it will be hard to find.

PS. my 04 towing - I can set you back in the seat while towing 10K while getting on the freeway.

I have a 2006 6.0 lariat crew 4wd srw and I love the truck. Good on fuel and loads of power. I only have 2,700 miles on it. I personally know only two others with them. One has 40k plus with No issues whatsoever, loves it. His is an XL 2wd reg cab with 6 speed manual. He gets 21 mpg all around with no towing. The other guy has 4wd supercab lariat srw with well over 100k. Had to replace 1 egr valve. No other issues whatsoever. Loves the truck also. I decided to go with 6.0 rather than deal with the unknowns of new emmissions regs and 6.4. I hope the 6.4 works out great, but I didn't feel I wanted to risk it. This truck is probably my favorite vehicle ever.

I love my 6.0. Have had some minor problems with it(EGR, Y pipe and now turbo) but most of my problems have been dealership service department related NOT with the truck. I was a Dodge man, but I wouldn't trade my Ford for any Dodge or chevy.

Like said before, "In a heartbeat". I have an 04 with 0 problems in 30K. I wouldn't trade if for anything either. The 6.0 grin is something that will last forever.

Never had a better truck. I have 20K on an '05 6.0L with a Egde Juice w/ Attitude, Snow Perf Water/Meth Kit, 4" MBRP exhaust, and an AFE Intake. Never had a bit of problems.

I have an 06 and love it. I have had some minor problems but all was taken care of by the dealer. it tows like a clydsdale on steroids. We tow a 9,000 trailer 20-30 times a year for anywhere from 75miles to 2500 miles. (wife has a business that makes her travel a lot) After having the diesel I do not think I would tow with anything else.

I would do it again. Aside from a little oil weeping from the intercooler duct on the first tow and a little turbo surge before I discovered Diesel Kleen, my 04 has been nothing but diesel fuel, oil changes and tire rotation. It pulls like no tomorrow, and at least with the automatic the tow/haul mode can slow a trailer down almost as good as an exhaust brake would. I'm teetering on 30,000 miles, most of it towing something, with no serious complaints.

Markadeck, I took delivery of a F350 dually with the 6.0 and a 6 speed in April. This was a replacement truck from Ford for an 04 that they could not get to run right. Anyway I am very happy with the 06. It has more power, better fuel economy and seems to be put together better than the 04. I have about 3800 miles on it now. Highway mileage is running 18MPG and up. Loaded with a slide in camper (3K) and pulling my boat (3k) on hilly terrain going to the river it is getting between 12.5 MPG and 13 MPG. The 04 would only get 11.5 on a good day. I had an 01 that had the 7.3 in it and the 6.0 is a great improvement in power. So in answer to your question, Yes I would definetely buy the 6.0L again. I think some of the other responses make very good points about what is to come with the 6.4 and the 08 MY trucks. Jim
