sensor??

I'm not sure about a 93, but my 95 reads the speed off of a sensor in the rear. It picks up a signal from a tone wheel that is hooked up to the ring gear. If it don't see this ring spin, you won't see no speed read. And of course that would mean no odometer read. It's east to pull out. Take it out and clean it and re-install it. I replaced mine (even though it was not the problem). I think the part was about $25. Like I said, I'm not sure a 93 reads off a tone wheel. I would guess if your truck has ABS it does because thats where it senses brake lock. Is your ABS light on?

yep, '93 reads off the vss (vehicle speed sensor) mounted on top of the rear end. may be bad, or it may be the gear mounted to the ring gear itself is shot. when u pull the vss, look inside the diff and make sure no missing teeth on gear.
