Looking for some advice. Yesterday my rear end was down to the rubber stops, the front was fine. Compressor was not coming on. I did some research on this forum and checked the relay. I jumped the relay and compressor worked. I get the 12v and 7v readings on the connector. I was able to fill the rear air bags with the jumped compressor. I believe it is holding. I also checked the union by the MC. It looked fine. I'm thinking I need a new relay. 3 months ago I put all new shocks on the vehicle. Monroe airs on the front and bilsteins on the rear. Could the compressor be going bad? Since it was down to the stops, could I have a leak in the rear causing the compressor to overwork and burning out the relay?
It sounds like the relay to me. My experience with a "bad" compressor is that it started making a lot of noise, and then quit altogether in three days. I bought a remanufactured one from americanairsuspension.com and have been happy since. By the way, the compressor I finally purchased is far superior to pther you will find on the web. I had to return two of them before I found Eddie at american air suspension.
I agree that it sounds like the relay, but if it bottomed out you also have a leak. I recently put the same shocks as you on my 99 EB and then I let it pump all the way up in 4X4 Low. While it was still running I got under with a spray bottle of soapy water and checked all. I found small leaks at the air spring relays and mayor leaks on the T fittings. All were repaired with new O rings and now my compressor only runs at startup and a couple of tmes per hr for less than a minute. Before it ran every 5 min for a couple of minutes.
I appreciate the replies. I purchased a new relay and plan on installing a rebuilt compressor from american air suspension. They also threw in a free union for the fitting by the mc. The air has been holding (approx. 6 days). I believe if I have a leak it's small but I still plan on doing the soapy water tests on connections and lines.
A quick update to this thread...my LLS stopped working 2 days before a big trip down south. The check suspension light did come on. I traced the problem to a bad connection betweem the wire pigtail and the recently replaced relay (I believe it was the socket marked "A"). I cleaned this connection and pushed the metal clip inside the pigtail forward so that it would make better contact. It's been working now for 2 weeks+.
