i've been reading all the posts on kits and homemade solutions for an externally regulated system. i'm thinking of bending up my own hard lines, just cause i like the way it looks and thought there might be some restriction from the large number of fittings in-line if flexible hose was used. any thoughts on this?
I dont think there are restriction "problems" or ill effects from the use of fittings on flexible hose. I also want to use hardline for my home made regulated return system.Ijust wouldnt want to use flexible lines not so much for looks I just like the durabilty,I would only use SS line. Im thinking about feeding the heads from front to back, anyone ever done theres like that?
Hey guys hows it going. Look in my gallery and you will see my setup. I used 5/16 steel fuel line and compression fittings for mine. It is tricky using hard line (bending etc.) but i thought it would be better. I also used the factory fpr and fabbed and aluminum block for it. Let me know what you think!
ive said it before, and ill say it again. that is once nice fuel setup you have there, Lancer. however i am guessing that you need to remove that every time you want to get at something below them? for that reason i will be going with an ITP kit or make my own if i feel abititious enough. i also like that CCV filter in that gallery below!
lance...that's exactly what i'm talking about. nice job. now i'm getting really stoked! so you used the factory regulator and let it handle the return? did you shim it or anything? and did you get the results everybody else is talking about?
Thanks guys. I've routed the line so i can get at the fuel filter no prob. Actually you can access everything pretty good. Just the stock fuel pressure for now. No shims yet. I myself noticed the engine quieter for sure. I have since installed a pre-pump pump and pre-pump filter. So i may remove the the stock filter later. But not sure. Good luck and if you need any help i'll do my best!
So far so good on my SS braided ext. reg fuel system. I was very careful to route my line so as there is no chaffing against other engine components. I can't emphasize that enough when running any type line. -6AN line and flex fittings
on mine. Running pressure at 60psi.

that also looks pretty sweet...i might have to look into that. is the stainless hard to cut? special tools required? what's with the one blue flex line... is that your return?

The SS line is a little tricky to cut. Some use a Dremmel, i used a fine tooth hacksaw in a Sawzall. Maybe some heavy duty electricians lopers will work. The
fittings cost the most. They screw onto the hose in a CCW direction. Jeg's has the line and fittings.
The blue flex line is a feed from my filter bowl to my pressure gauge.

I did use a pipe bending tool and my hands aswell. The flexable lines would be much easier. I just like to be differant. Also i like to save money. It took me longer but i have about $40.00 in total in parts. Either way which ever way you go i hope it works as good for you as it did for me!

I have cut lots of tubing with a tubing cutter. No little pices of metal to get left in the line.
Yes, they are available at Lowe's, Home depot, Sears, and maybe wal-mart. The cheaper it is the less cuts the wheel will make. I am not sure as to whether or not there are harder wheels available. When you make a cut with it it will pinch in slightly on the tubing less on SS) but the little spike on the back side is for reaming it back to size.
Those cutters will only work on hard line. Psnut is talking about braided ss line. This is a rubber hose rapped in a ss braid. It will have to be cut with a saw of some sort. Hope this help!
