Brake pads

I just had my 2003 E-350 V-10 inspected and the dealer said my rear brake pads are almost due for replacement.I am surprised because my truck has only 17K on it but I do keep a lot of weight in the truck. Also wondering why the rears are due before the fronts?I am looking for suggestions on which Brand of pads to buy and am willing to spend extra for better performance.I'll change the pads myself and am also wondering if not cutting the rotors is OK based on the low milage on my vehicle.I'm fairly mechanical but obviously removing and cutting the rotors makes it a much bigger job.Thanks.

Bendix pads i think fleet metallic is what they are called should be good for heavy weight and heavy duty stuff. Not cutting rotors is ok. If you do not have any pulsation it will be fine.

Rear brakes are sometimes smaller, and that might explain it, but I'd have them checked because 17k is not much. I normally use soft pads since theys are a lot cheaper and easier to replace than rotors.
