I have a 2002 ford explorer limited with a 4.6L and I was wounder how can I get more horsepower and torque for towing. I am looking for semi-cheap to cheap methods to achieving this gain to my unit.
I don't know if anyone makes a stroker kit for the 4.6L or not, or how much stroking is even possible on that block, but that would take the torque up (and thus the HP). You might search around regarding stroker kits (but that's probably not such a cheap approach).
Fastest way to get more torque where the rubber meets the road is to change rear end gears. It's less expensive if you have a 2WD. I doubt you will find any cheap methods; it's a matter of what money will buy and if a guy feels it's worth the cost.

I agree with the gear change idea, it's the quickest, easiest way to get torque.
A really good bang for buck for torque is a positive displacement supercharger.
They work straight off idle and if you want steady torque without revs, that's what you need.
They go on with less modification than a turbo.
Otherwise, see what the Mustang boys are up to with the same engine especially in the header/exhaust pipe area.
