need a bigger torque wrench
Its 1:15 AM and I'm going nuts. I removed my heads last night to have hypermax machine the groves in them for the oring steel gaskets. I also had them machine the valve seats for the high rev valve springs, which are installed. So, I started pulling the heads last night at 10. Had them both out by 230, then stood there staring at them trying to decide if the valves should come out. I stood there for like an hour. I was tired. Went to bed, woke up, drove to hypermax and dropped off the heads. Went to bed. I pick up the heads today around 4. Bring them to my truck, and go eat dinner with my girl. Then I don't start reinstalling them till 8 pm! whats wrong with me? Anyway, I got them on, but my torque wrench isn't big enough. I need 115lbs and my wrench only goes to 75. Crap. Its 1130 when I have them torqued to the step 1-65lbs. And I can't go any further. I have to wait till tomorrow to buy a wrench. Oh well I guess. Maybe I'll get some sleep tonight. By the way, very please with Ron and the gang at hypermax. Very good guys to deal with. Hats off to them. Goodnight

there was a post in the superduty section about how some guy i do not recall the correct name, but i do know the guy, he calculated some formula using your body weight and the torque needed, and the amount of leverage, yadda yadda ya, but i would not trust that to something as torque-specific as the heads. good luck.
Anyway, as for the gaskets. THey are steel gaskets, with steel rings around the combustion chamber. They machined a grove in the heads around each cylinder. . . and the steel wire ring seats nicely into the groove, taking most of the compression forces of the combustion chamber. My stock gaskets were bulging by the head bolt holes. I only develope about 25 lbs of boost right now, and I'll be pumping a whole lot more. So they are very necessary. Tim
