I realize it's a fairly generic topic, but would someone please point me to some good, basic instruction on dealing with rust and holes. I don't see anything in the articles.
Try Ron Covell's excellent video "Basic Techniques for Working with Steel" Highly recommended! www.covell.biz
Although not in the articles, doing a search on here on rust repair, patch panels, body work, etc should give you a couple weeks worth of reading. My gallery has a section on hole filling (not rust holes, but in solid metal panels).
There's an excellent sticky article in the bodywork/paint forum on making and installing a patch panel.
The classic booklet on metal shaping, "Keys to Metal Bumping"; you might find that in a public library, or you can get it from Eastwood.
Thanks, these are good leads for working with metal. I am dealing with a lot of old rust pitting around my roof and fenders--also above the headlights. They were filled with bondo probably 20-30 years ago and now are in need of redoing. Someone told me of some newer anti-rust treatments.
If there is pitting/bubbling, there are holes. The only real solution is to remove the rusted out metal back as far as necessary to solid metal and install new metal patches. there is no "magic bullet" treatment to fix it with. Sorry.
