My e4od in my '94 7.3 turbo 4wd crew wont downshift into low gear when stopping and the od light blinks. I have to put it in neutral and mash the fuel. All the computer tests at the worst and best shops say it's time to pony up for a rebuild. I saw Phoenix transmissions on e bay and called them, they want $875 for a remanufactured plus $300 shipping and $550 core. It come with a 12 monthh warranty. I think a 2 year will be acouple of hundred more. They said they had performance E4ODs that are better than Jaspers and run about $1950. I figure to mabie skip the warranty and try for the heavy clutched model. Or would anyone take my e4od as a core for a 5 speed and I could get my hands dirty doing a conversion?
be warned about phoenix retrans aka phoenix hard parts do your self a favor and check out www.ripoffreport.com this is not the company you want to deal with I have personally dealt with them and it cost me a lot of money. PM me if you have any questions
Have you pulled the pan and checked for metal? I would not condem your existing E4OD unless your pan is filled with metal. If your tranny has 50,000 miles on it a 1/4" thick build-up of fine metal around the magnet in the oil pan is normal wear and tear.
Make sure you resolve your existing sensor, wiring, and controller problems first or you may be solving them once you got the new tranny installed and risk damage to the new tranny as well.
To be considered done properly, an E4OD rebuild should cost in the neighbourhood of $3,000 to $4,000 (including installation)
