90 ranger needs engine&steering help
Hi guys, I need some advise. I have 90 4x4 5speed that leaks oil, pings, has lost most of its power and its steering gear box is leaking power steering fuild. I would like to upgrade the engine to a 4.0 or just put in another 2.9. Can this be done? My other question is how do fix the leak in the steering gear box. Is there a seal on the pit arm or do I have replace the box?

The 4.0 upgrade is good one, and it'll bolt up to your tranny no prob. As for the steering gear you could buy a seal for the gear, but probably just a better idea to change the box, also chage the pressure and return lines while you're at it. I don't remember what the box costs, but it's pretty expensive if it serves me right. I only recommend that you change the box because I had changed the seal back in the day and a year later the box went anyways. So I just wasted my time the first time, and did the work twice.
