Thanks Subford....

Just out of curiousity (ingnorance), how close are these diagrams to the 87 & up gas trucks?

well the gauge does not read right in my front tank either but that is a new assembly. I think maybe I put the wrong size in it. I bought an assembly for a 22 gallon midship tank instead of a 19 gallon. I don't know if that will effect the float movement or not.
Yes it will.

The Diagrams were for the non-FI 460 (7.5) and non-ECU (EEC) Trucks that had Electric Fuel Pumps.
These Trucks had a vapor return fuel system using a vapor-separating device about one Ft. from the Carburetor. This system was used from 1983 until the FI was put on the 460 engines. The vapor separator was put on if needed on vapor locking trucks starting in 1980 and all 460s starting in 1983.
(This about the Vapor Separator is true for E350 Vans but I am not 100% sure about the F250/F350s yet.)

Neither the vapor return or all of these other electrical items in the diagrams are used or needed on the FI Trucks.

All FI Trucks have a fuel return system and do not use the Vapor separator as it is not needed with the Fuel Pressure Regulator. The Computer Controlled (EEC) Trucks have no need for the Oil Switch and all of the other above Electrical Items for the Fuel System showed in the diagrams.

If you want to see Photos of the Vapor separator and view the diagrams go to the following thread:

Also is there a trick to getting that rear tank down? It seems that the tank is bigger than the frame it sits between.
Thanks

I have found the best way to work on the pumps is to take the bed off.

The different tank has a different shape, which will affect the readings.

With the the key in RUN on the rear tank I should get voltage/current at the connector that plugs onto the tank, correct? I was not getting anything with my test light.

Does the power wire for the pump (red for front tank, brown/white for rear tank) go directly from the pump relay to the pump or does it first go to the selector valve on the frame rail?

They go directly from the Tank Selector Relay to the pump.
They do not go through the Tank Selector Valve/Switch.

Did you ever check Fuse #15?
Did you notice that the Fuel Tank Selector Switch is just a polarity reversing switch?
The Fuel Tank Selector Switch is on the dash.
The Tank Selector Valve/Switch is on the Frame.
I have no idea where the Tank Selector or the Fuel Pump Cutoff Relays are but would assume they are under the Hood.

I have not checked the fuses. I don't have a diagram for my fuse box. There is no cover to it. I don't know if they came with a cover. If anyone has a diagram of that I would appreciate it. Do you know what amp fuse the #15 is?

The Diagram says it is 10A.

Thank you subford.I will put that in my glovebox for future reference.
I don't think it is the fuse because I can move the switch between the front and rear tanks. The front works and the rear doesn't. If it was the fuse neither of them would work, right?

Not necessarily, if the fuse is bad and the Tank Selector Relay would stay in its de-energize position and if the Front Tank is wired to the NC contact the Front pump would run even if you select the rear Tank. Of course the Fuel Gauge would stay on the Front tank also unless it is in limbo between the two Tanks.

I have redrawn the diagram to get it on one page, maybe it is a little clearer.
