the 80's. I m sure it has WAY over 129,000 miles the drivers seat has been
replaced But it has a built in cell phone (it looks like it was taken from the oval
office in 1964) don't work anymore so i gotta rip it out Just curios how to tell

You cant tell but if its rusty its got a few miles on it and it shouldnt put out a lot of black smoke because thats just unburnt fuel.

My assigned tow truck is a '96 F-550 Diesel 4x4 reg cab, with a manual transmission. I love this truck! If you pop the hood, and look closely; you can tell that many parts have been replaced due to shiny parts next to dull or dirty parts. She just came out of the shop with her 3rd engine. Runs awesome. I have been all over (and under) her, and you can not have any idea what the true milage is. I do not belive anyone can be 100% sure, but I also believe trucks do not lie. Just listen to her and she will tell you everything there is to know. I do not understand why these odometers reset at 100k, there is soo much more life after the first hundred thou.

Look at stuff like the pedal covers worn off.
Holes worn through the floor mats under the throttle pedal.
Seat worn out.
Doors that drop down when you start to open them.
Lots of steering play in the gear box.
Door handles and arm rests that are well worn or missing.
Look at the grain in the door panel top by the drivers side window. Mine is worn smooth at 300,000.

If the truck was maintained well, you will have a hard time telling mechanically, but you will see lots of wear in the above areas.
