This is for anyone considering an MRI with contrast agent. I was told there was little to no reason for any concern regarding the use of Magnevist for an MRI. Immediately after, I was barely able to drive, it became more and more difficult to straighten my spine, and the muscle and joint pain was severe. I contacted the physician at the MRI center, who again stated the reaction was not from the MRI. Two months later, the first of four people would provide some information about this reaction. A week or so ago I came across this link, which provides more than enough information to be very concerned about the use of an MRI. Its now five months later, I am still in a great deal of pain as a result of the Magnevist. Two visits to the ER for servere pain, both times they as well stated it was not possible. Just goes to show how much they do not know! www.berlexmri.ca/MagnevistEn.pdf
Sorry to hear about your problem. Any time you put something foreign into your body there is a chance of getting a reaction. One thing to remember when there is a contrast medium put into your body is to afterward drink copious amounts of water to flush it out of your system. That probably doesn't work if it is the CNS.
Yikes, sorry to hear that. I have had 11 MRI's done in the last 2 1/2 years. Half with contrast. I also had CAT scans with contrast. I had no probs with that stuff. All I can say is sorry about that. When you need MRI's the last thing you need is more pain.
This was my 12th MRI since 1987. This is also the first time I agreed to the contrast, as the problems only continued to get worse, and I had no answers. I knew I had a congested lymphatic system, as well as being extremely sensitive to any insect bites. Since Feb 06, I have found I have very high uric acid which is caused by the 6.5 hr cancer surgery, 1.5 hr back surgery, two years of heavy narcotic use, a poor diet consisting of too many processed foods and having used thousands of Tylenol for pain.
I also tested very high for C-Reactive Protein (see the "Mastering Leptin" book), which not one of many doctors thought to look for. Then, I have the inflammation caused by the Magnevist. Goutcure.com has great information on the Uric Acid. Serrapease is supposedly excellent for the inflammation, and I posted what adverse reactions are known about the use of contrast. Bob Barefoot coral calcium is excellent to balance pH too, but I have found that did not balance the Uric Acid, nor was it useful for the inflammation issues.
What gets me is the physician in charge at the MRI center, swore my reaction was not caused by the MRI. I then find out eight weeks later it was. It took five months to locate the information I posted on the contrast. My neighbor also had an MRI, and I recently found he was unable to talk or walk after his test, was brought home by ambulance and has never been the same since. As of today, the MRI center has not yet replied to my requests for information. They charged over $4000 for this two hour test, would not admit any liablity for my injuries due to the Magnevist, and have refused to honor their verbal agreement to the cost for the tests, which was agreed upon prior to signing the agreement.
I was scheduled for a medical consult last week, only to be told that due to new Medicare regulations, and the fact I now have an urgent or potentially risky situation due to the Magnevist, the phsycian has refused to offer the consult!
DAMN, and I thought that my broken neck was bad.....Good luck to ya.
So they admit the Magnevist is a potential problem when it could impact them but not when it impacts you. Typical doctor crap. I wish I knew what to tell ya.
The MRI physician stated my reaction was not caused by the Magnevist, and said so in no uncertain terms. I was in agony and really concerned, not having any answers for eight weeks. When I went to an ER at another hospital due to the pain, they all but refused to put my complaint on the intake form. They have not replied to the list of reactions caused by Magnevist, which was sent via certified mail. A Chiropractor informed me that she was aware the pigment used in the dye causes restriction in the spine, joints and smaller blood vessels, and can last up to six months. What really gets me is, they could have resolved the problem right from the start, at least according to the information from the drug company.
