Locked is clockwise, Unlocked is counterclockwise. You will know they are unlocked when you can reach in and turn the axle stub shafts or the driveshaft when the truck is in 2wd. You can remove the snapring that holds the locking hub assembly on, and pull the hub off and grease it. I did this to my truck because the hubs were incredibly hard to turn, now I can do it very easily.

Locking hubs
All right, Im new with the Ford diesel thing, but Im impressed so far. I need more info on lock or unlock positions on hubs, he said clockwise is locked, then if you lock one side clockwise, and go to the other side and lock it clockwise, you are turning each hub a different way. Is that right? I would think if you turn both hubs toward the front of truck than that would engage the hubs, but I dont know. I just need some friendly info, I dont want to FU my 4WD.
