I've been sort of thinking about this post all night. I would let the boy muck out the tank. Then I could not wait to give him a chance to hammer my expensive truck once again. I too have a step-son of sorts. He took my T-Bird Super Coupe without my permission and blew the tranny in it. Since he had such a hard time picking himself back up he has never even considered begging to drive it again.

That's pretty much how I felt, but I try to remember what I was like at his age. He really is a good kid, just a bit lacking in judgement at times. The filling w\ gas was just a dumb mistake, but blowing the tranny had me frosted- he did it hee-hawing out in the desert. I have 2 extremely capable jeeps, including a dedicated rock crawling buggy, that he's allowed to use, yet he goes and takes my F250 out romping and blows the tranny!!! Fortunately, despite his poor judgement he does tend to learn from his mistakes.
I'll clean the tank this weekend and do the mods. Hopefully that takes care of everything.

Well, spent several hours this evening dropping the tank, doing the Hutch and harpoon mods, etc, and am glad to say it seems to have resolved the problem 100%. I still will have to pull a load uphill to be sure, but there sure was an immediate and substantial improvement in accelleration, and no more bogging whatsoever. The filter element in the "mixing chamber" thingie that's removed as part of the mod was packed with black crud, and there was a fair amount of the same crud floating around in the tank. I added an external filter that is much easier to change, as well as a lifter pump in addition to the standard fuel pump, and it's driving like a new truck. Thanks for all the good advice, it sure saved me a lot of $$$ and aggravation!
The factory pumps aren't the most efficient at sucking fuel before it pushes it to the injectors. You can do like Kwik did and put the pump in the tank or install a pusher pump to feed the main pump and make it more efficient.
I have seen the "Lifter Pump" mentiond before but do not understand the what & why at doing this mod.
How about a description. My PS is now approaching 80K. These two mods seems like they need to be done next.
I came across some info comparing performance w\ 50, 75, and 100 hp performace settings on one of the aftermarket chips. The author found very little difference in performance between the 75 and 100 hp settings, and he found it was because his factory fuel pump wasn't delivering enough fuel. He added an auxilliary pump (external) and it solved the problem. I think he called it a lifter pump so I used the same term, but I may be mixing up my terms.
Whatever you call it, all it amounts to is an external low pressure\high flow pump (I used an 8 PSI, 72 gal\hr pump from NAPA) installed before the factory pump to act as a "helper" to make sure the high pressure pump is fed an adequate fuel supply. It is wired in parallel to the factory pump (just wire + to +, - to ground). It came with a mounting bracket that bolted neatly to an existing hole in the frame rail. It's probably overkill, but it was cheap and I'd rather have excess fuel capacity than not enough. I also plan on adding an edge chip, etc in the near future so may actually need the extra capacity.
