I have a 97 F350 7.3L PSD. My fuel guage is pegged on "E". I have been reading some old posts on this and just wanted to make shure I had this right.
If it's on "E" I have a grounding problem, if it's past "F" I have a sending unit problem. Is this correct? Thanks.
I don't know how to fix your problem, but I bought my Bronco used about four years ago and the fuel gauge was stuck on E too. I drove around all this time watching my trip odometer. This past monday I miss calculated my MPG and I ran out of gas. I carry a spare with gas, but I did not fill it after I gave a friend of mine gas after they ran out. So I had to call a friend to bail me out. To make a long story short, after making a fuel stop to fill the Bronco and the spare. I was on my way home and looked at the dash. My fuel gauge is working now.
Very strange! I think the sending unit must have been off somehow.
While trying to get the fuel pressure up again, I spent alot of attempts cranking the engine. I may have jarred a loose connection. We'll see.
I hope others can help you with your situation. I know I didn't!
thanks

I thought these things happed only to me. I can say that the fuel guage in my wifes van didn't work for years, until the fuel pump finally gave out...Replaced the fuel pump, which is also part of the fuel guage assembly, submerged into the fuel tank, now it all works perfect...It was also stuck on "E". But, she drives a chebbie.
Take the sending unit wire off the tank, and ground it, and then take it off ground with the key on. If the gauge swings back and forth when you do this, then the wiring and the gauge are ok and it's probably the sending unit.
Yes but you could have an open wire or bad connector in this circuit also.
I am sorry I was thinking backwards, I should have said NO. Sender is a variable Resister, when fuel is low resistance is low.
Franklin2 please remove my earlier post.
As others have said your float has more than likely sunk or a wire is shorted.
