Im going to be needing some new tires. I'm going with BFG All terrain. But does anyone know the biggest i can go (285,305,315) on a stock aluminum wheel? My X is a 00 with diesel. Thanks for any help. And Im a newbie. I needed a vehicle to pull my mustang around with.
I would stick with no larger than 295, IMO. Just remember that your performance will decrease as your tire size increases unless you regear to compensate. Especially when towing.
I fit 305s on my stock height F250 (2000) but it doesnt look like they would fit or even come close to fitting my Excursion (also 2000). Stock my Excursion sits way lower in the front than my truck. My F250 rubbed the inner plastic fender well at full lock.
If im not mistaken arent 285, 295, and 305 all right around 33", like 32.6" or something. Isnt the only difference the width?

I am in the process of buying new tires also. I currently have 285/70-17 BFG A/T's on a Motegi 17 x 9 rim. At 23k miles they are pretty ratty. They were rotated and balanced every 5-6k miles. The 285/70-17's fit fine. Might get 25k out of them, but they will be bald. No rubbing. My speedometer is now dead nuts accurate. Was about 5MPH off with the stock 265's. I was going to try a 295 or 305 this time, but BFG only makes a 285 & 315 in the 17". I am pretty sure a 295 would fit, a 305 might fit with some trimming of plastic but there is no way the 315's will fit without a lift. I am going to test a 33x12.50 (approx 305/70-17) to see what mods would be necessary. Pro Comp and Micky Thompson make and A/T in that size. Has anyone used those brands/models of tires?
