1st Post, Need Help with high temp.
Hello every one, I am new to the forum but have realy enjoyed reviewing the posts. I have a 1986 2.9 6 cyl. ranger I picked up a year ago for 800.00 bucks. the truck has 120k and runs great. Lately it has been overheating. I have since changed the fan clutch, radiator, water pump, temp. sensor switch, and themostat. The temp. gauge jumps back and forth between normal to high with or without the a/c on. I originaly put a 192 deg t-stat in and the temp. stayed at the high side of the gauge. I change to a 160 deg. t-stat. and it runs in the normal position until I get into stop and go traffic and it goes back up to the high side again. Since reading some of the other post, some recommend that you not use a 160 deg. t-stat ?. Please advise thanks.

A t-stat won't help overheating, really. If the t-stat opens up at a certain temp, it sure won't help keep an engine from running at 240 degrees...
You've done all the relatively cheap fixes, but I bet those heads are cracked somewhere, somehow.
