My truck leaked out fluid from the seal on my way back home pulling my 5th wheel. Seems these trucks leak fluid when overworked. I wonder if I use synthetic oil if the oil will not get to hot and weaken the new seal I put in?
i am having the same problem with my 03 7.3 right now it happend after i ragged on it a little to much the tranny fluid is coming from the same area i have also noticed my reverse seems to act funny and when my oil reaches operatting temp my truck takes a few seconds to lock up and start moving is the the torque converter
Me too. I have a C-4. Everytime I put fluid in, it runs straight out the vent. I add because there is nothing on the dipstick then After I run it up the road, there is massive ATF leakage. How difficult is it to change all the gaskets/seals?
Hoo-boy. Just got back from the transmission shop. What I thought was a simple seal leak has turned into something bigger. I'm not 100% sure of whats wrong yet, but the mechanic's talking torque converter. Says he just got a tech update about this problem and it's probably going to cost me about $800.00. Also, trucks out of warranty(sp.). Stay tuned for future updates. God, why didn't I buy a manual!
Oh, and before anyone maligns my tranny guy, I do trust him. He's good and he's never screwed me before.
Hi.
I promisedyou guys an update so here it is. Sorry it took me so long.
Tranny shop ended up replaceing the torque converter, front main seal and, I think, the pump seal bigblack02 was talking about. Several quarts of fluid and a few hours labor rounded out the $713.00 bill I got. Truck runs great now and no more leaks. Thanks to everybody for thier input.
