I changed my waterpump a while ago, now I slowly loose antifreeze. I know it is not internal because I can smell it when I shut the truck off, and it did not do this before the pump. Doesn't seem to be leaking around the pump. Problem is that it is such a small leak (1 litre every 1000K) that it does not drip in a nice visable way. Is there a dye or something I can put in it to see where it is coming from?
look for any stains near the water pump where water/antifreeze might leak, maybe the oring got cut when you put the waterpump back on? If you really cant detect a leak I really dont think that adding a dye will help
There is an invisible UV dye that you can add that will show up under a black light. You can use a simple black light bulb in your worklight. I would give it a shot. Even if you can't spot the leak during the day, I'd imagine that the dye would at least leave some UV traces. Even if it's dried out. That bright purple color should show up pretty well at night.
Okay, I'll see if my local Napa has it. The pipe on the new pump is a metal one, came installed. Such a small leak, I'll see how that goes tomorrow.

Well, found the leak. My buddy who works at a shop used one of those little pump things to pressurize my system (On the truck), and behold, it is that rusty thermostat housing. Why Ford puts that P.O.S. on these beautifull, expensive trucks is beyond me. SIGH, quick phone call, new housing and 203 degree thermostat is on the way for the same price the stealership wanted for just the housing..
Hopefully, all will be here at the same time as or before my DP chip, gonna have an install-fest with that chip, and my stainless MBRP that I have been looking at everynight.. Hope the exhaust looks as good on my truck as it does on floor right now...
Where did you order the housing and T-stat from? I have been thinking on changing T-Stats but keep looking at the housing and wonder if it would suvive the removal.
i got my thermostat from Dieselsite. i also got the Billet housing because i didnt want what you had, a leak. it works great, no leak. can be used and reused no problems.

I got 'em from Dieselsite, you don't want to remove that stock piece of crap untill you have your new one ready to go. We will see how it works in a few days once I get it.
