85 460 build
Hello all, I have a stock 85HD 4x4 with 460, manual 4-speed and 4:10 gears I am rebuilding. I want to keep decent fuel economy and run pump gas but want to have a torque monster. I need help deciding between Performer and Stealth intakes. I also am not sure which headers to purchase (some will not work with manual tranny). The machine shop has bored .030",decked block, line honed and crank ground and ordered ARP rod bolts. The heads are being ported with thermactor humps removed. Do I need to specify pre-72 timing set from Cloyles to avoid 8* retard. Should I open valves to 2.19 and 1.71 for better flow. I want a cam that will take advantage of the extra flow so will be ordering cam after flowing the ported heads (any suggestions on cam?). Is adjustable valvetrain worth the money? Roller rockers? Should I stay with stock distributer? Which HD clutch should I get? I originally planned on spending $1,500, I now know it will be at $3,000 - $4,000, but think I will be very happy with results. I will be using for normal driving and towing. Sorry this is so long winded.

You have an excellent plan and even a good budget! I always do the bottom first and if need be I wait until I have the money for things I can do later like heads, camshaft and the like. Ford ignitions are excellent and if I already owned one I would use it. Cant help you with the clutch, I use C6 only.
