After seeing what some of the lifted off road guys have posted on the forums, I would never buy one of their trucks used.

In my opinion buying a prelifted truck = nothing but problems, just speaking from my experience.

This thread is a perfect example of why lifting a truck is a terrible idea.

Here is a nearly new truck and everyone is afraid of it because it's lifted, and rightfully so.

My point is that anyone will think twice about purchasing a lifted truck so those of you doing so have likely made a huge mistake.

You do not mention the trim level or other options, but with the current market, rebates and free gas promotion, you might be able to get a new truck and have it lifted for the same money.

Well i bought a lifted truck a few years back test drove it, had my mechanic look at it, and did the whole deal. Everything seemed great. The guy i bought it from was a good guy and he didn't try to sell me a lemon, i honestly don't think he even knew about the problem. But after having some issues with the powersteering fluid runing low we eventually found that the frame was twisted and completely broken in one spot. You couldn't see any of it unless it was on a left with the suspension pulled off. But when you turned it to the left the frame would twisted and dump out the steering fluid.

But the frame was broken because of the weight of the motor and all with the leift, the lift caused the majority of the weight to shift to a different point on the frame where it had no re-enforcement and no crossmembers.

I'm sorry this happened to you. However, it should serve as a good example to those so much as even considering lifting a truck.

There is little to no point in doing so, plus you are only opening yourselves up to more and more problems.

I just can't understand what anyone is thinking when they lift or even level their brand new trucks (or any of them covered by warranty). When you think that people paid good money to give themselves problems, possibly void their warranty and virtually make it impossible to resell their truck it really makes me shake my head.

I'd agree with BruceFX4. You can very likely get a brand new one for less.
I did. 06 Lariat SCREW 2WD loaded with extras and options including 20 inch rims, and
Scorpion tires.

Major suspension modifications on any car....... you've undone millions and millions of dollars in testing, R&D, roll-tests, and saftey work done by the manufacturer. But I do know that everyone is unique, and so are their rides.

I dont know if I would get that down on a lift or modded truck. I think they make these trucks and any vehicle for that matter to suit the majority of the people that are buying them. Plus I can get an F150 with 235/17 tires or one that's 275/65. If i get a stock F150 with 235/17 tires and put bigger tires, shocks, whatever so it's the same size as one with 275/65 tires doesn't mean i have ruined millions of R&D. Making a suspension change really isn't that much different then tuning or chipping your truck. I dont feel like i have ruined my truck by adding 1" to the tires and 2" to the front end and putting a tuner on it. And think about the Mustangs you can buy new off of a dealer's lot that are fitted with Rouch engine, suspension, and body parts; Saleens; and the like. Those can be seriously modded and bought new from the dealer. To me, my mods are what I need to do to custom fit my truck to what I like and want, not for my neighborhood soccer mom. Just my opinion though!

A majority of the performance manufactures R&D teams work with the guys at Ford and the other manufactures..that is why you can get supercharger that was not installed at the factory. and still retains it factory warranty..
Its all about choices..I feel that my truck looks drives and performes So much better then it did the day I drove it off the lot.

I think my post was taken wrong, im not against lifted trucks at all.. in fack i have a levelizer on mine now and im planning on getting a lift around 50,000 miles. however i am against buying a truck already lifted. in my mind if you do any kind of modification to a truck the chances of that truck being driven harder than so a 60 year old guy with a fully stock truck that is taken to the dealer for everything, the ladder is the truck i would choose if i was going to buy a used truck.

I'll go along with that I would much rather buy a stock truck and lift it than buy a pre-lifted truck. And for the same reason you mention I would buy new instead used; any truck can be abused, lifted or not.
