Which transmission do I have?

Where do I look on the tranny to find out the model and production date?

The guy I bought the truck from said that the tranny was new or rebuilt from the dealership he bought it from. I'd like to do some investigating myself.

Also, how come my signature wont show even when I have "show your signature" checked?

Thanks,
Leo in Mississippi

Leo,
you have the 4R100 trany on your truck. There's a plaque in the door jamb with a code number that specifies how your truck is equipped. I don't have the info chart handy right now.
To see your signature info you have to become a supporting member like myself. Just click on the blue "supporter" emblem for more info. For now if you mouse over your signature it will show your info.

Thanks for the info,

are there any markings on the transmission itself that gives any information?

I guess I'm going to become a supporting member soon.

Thanks,

Not sure about markings on the tranny.
Being a Supporter is a good thing. This is a great forum
and i've learned volumes about my PSD here. Lots of experience to draw from out there.

I think you can find this info out by the VIN

Unfortunately there is not identifying markings on the 4r100 to tell anything about it. Your best bet is to take care of it, i.e. larger trans cooler, keep it clean, change fluid every once in a while. If it was just rebuilt/replaced by dealership, than more than likely it is a stock replacement tranny. Putting in a shift kit or Valve body from BTS will greatly extend its current life, same goes for tranny cooler. Tru Cool 4739 or 6.0 tranny cooler are common. The only way to find out where the tranny came from would be to contact previous owner and ask.

Nope, no trans info in the VIN. A Ford dealer can run the VIN in their OASIS system and find out how the truck was built, though.

There is a blue tag in the driver's door opening. Under TR there will be an E. E means 4R100.
