I got the diesel because real men drive diesels and the V10 is for wimps.

I think everyone knows it's a running joke by now.

At least... I hope so.

Let's face it, for a growing number of Super Duties on the streets, the motor decision is more of a matter of personal preference, beliefs (founded or not), and finances/credit than any driving factor of longevity or work need.

Right along those very same lines comes such debates as:

- short box vs. long box
- standard cab vs. extended cab vs. crew cab
- XL vs. XLT vs. Lariat vs. (all of the specialized trim types...like King Ranch, Harley, etc.)
- 4x2 vs. 4x4

...and the smaller debates/decisions like cab clearance lights, tow mirrors, etc.

I'm going to trade in my V10 for a diesel. The V10 is OK, just OK. I really haven't been that impressed by the performance and a whopping 8-9 mpg average is pitiful. I just can't make up my mind to get an 07 or wait for the new design ( the pictures of the redesign look pretty nasty ugly) maybe I'll just get an 07 and chance the 6.0. Any comments or advice or anybody thinking the same? Thanks guys!

I paid invoice for this truck and every other new vehicle I've ever owned. I can't imagine why anyone would pay retail for a new vehicle so I don't think it's relevant to say that the PSD upcharge is $5300 or $5500.
As you wish. That $8000 resale difference a year later just got bigger, because that's on the wholesale and the retail side of the equation. Of note- until recently, Ford carried larger incentives on gas vs. diesel trucks, so the net new price difference can vary.

Humm, what gears to you have in your SD with V10 3v? Just curious...plus your SD is not stock. What do you expect? Lift your PSD...and keep the same stock gears...and your mileage will drop too.

With you question: Good luck either way. Hope you enjoy your new PSD more than you did the V10. Might want to ask in the 6.0 forum and the 6.4 forum.

Ok, Ok, Ok, what if there was no difference in price? Would we all be driving diesels?

I think I can say with some certainty:

NO.

Biz4two: I ordered the 4:10 gears on my 05 with the V10. I think the motor is OK but leaves much to be desired. Just putting a slight lift and 35" tires didn't effect the mpg much from stock anyhow, it has always been low. Like I said the V10 is fine but nothing to rave about. My monthly fuel bill is about the same out of pocket as my mortage which is a bit hard to take in comparison. I do construction work and it just pisses me off to see that much hard earned money go to gas.

Not knowing what your mortgage is, that is A LOT of cash! Wow...hope you get better results with the PSD 6.0 or 6.4 whichever you go with.

OBTW...you would have been much better off with the 4.30 gears...especially since you added larger tires. Makes the V10 seem like a whole other engine.

Absolutely not. I have a friend that will only ride with me because I generally refuse to sit in his dinky little two-seater car. He loves my truck, but hates the motor (basically claims it is noisy & smelly), and if he is like that, you know there are others out there.

To each their own.

I didn't plan to buy the diesel.

I fully intended to buy the v10 gasser. I drove both when I was ready to buy, and there was no comparison. Even in stock trim, the diesel felt much stronger. After some slight modification, I now have an 8000lb sports car. Oh, and it gets 19 mpg on the highway and about 16 around town.

I like my Lariat comforts.

Back to the question. I really loved my 99 V10 CC Dually. I really hated the 6-9 MPG towing. Man that hurt. My 06 it getting 17.2 on the highway and 11.5 towing 8000#. That pretty good since I hardley ever see a flat section of road for 300+ miles and I keep it at 70. I also like that gains that you can get with a chip. Minimal with V10, amazing with a diesel. Would I consider a V10. Yes if they could get the towing milage better. Until then I keep the oil burner.
