Batteries

It is time for new batteries for my 00 7.3 Excursion. Should I stay away from Advance Auto and Auto Zone batteries? Is the Motorcraft battery my best choice? I can get the Motorcraft for $89 around here. Advance Auto and Auto Zone are about $12 cheaper. Thanks for any suggestions.

My local Costco sells Optima Batteries at a very reasonable price. Very powerful and very reliable, in my opinion.

Do some research. Alot of batteries are made by the same manufacturer but labeled under different names.

I have an '06 F-250 6.0L. First thing I did is buy two Optima Yellow tops! Best upgrade that can be done for the electrical system. When my '96 F-250 gasser needed a new battery in '98, I switched to an Optima. It's still in it and still going today. Great batteries!!

You really can't go wrong with the Motorcraft batteries, but the Optima's are WAY better than anything out there. Mine are probably on their way out, so once they're gone, I'll be getting some myself.

I have had the duralast batteries from autozone for 3 years now with now problems. I replaced both at the same time and went with that brand due to them having (I think) 36 mth replacements and 84 month total warranty. Then again with an engine that big and hard to start if I get past 3 years so be it....I am ready to replace them anyway.

Check out Optima's website here. Notice, when you select any diesels, their battery locator comes back with "application not found":

http://www.optimabatteries.com/publi...ry_search.html

If you select a gas engine for the same vehicle, it comes back with a battery.

i dont buy anything from autozone anymore. i've gotten to many bad parts from them including batteries. you get what u pay for these days. i'm partial to INTERSTATE batteries, but it boils down to personal preferance. i,ve never had an INTERSTATE battery go bad on me early. 5 to 6 years is what i get out of them. Walmart batteries is another i'd definately stay clear of too. there's my 2 cents....

Thanks for all of the replies. I think that I am going with the Motorcraft. I have not really heard anything bad about them. I don't have a Costco near me that I know of or I would check them out.

If you have the $$$$$$$, OPTIMA is the best choice. Just put 2 OPTIMA red tops in my X last Friday. I have had an OPTIMA yellow top in my Thunderbird SC for about a year and it has seen 5 significant discharges/recharges due to an electrical problem. I got the yellow top since it was a deep cycle. I got the red tops because if you do have a problem the replacement warranty is better then the yellow tops. IMO, OPTIMA batteries are the best.

I work for a heavy truck parts distributor in Detroit, we sell alot of optima yellow tops to customers with off road equipment like dozers and such. They hold up to alot of shock abuse too.

I think if you do a search you will find that there are only Three battery manufacturers and companies just put their labels on them. Motorcraft on the label doesn't really mean anything.

Optima batteries are newer technology and will save you money. Costco as a place to purchase is just a suggestion, a very inexpensive option. You can get them elsewhere. They work for me.

I'm with Bob I've looked for the Optima's at thier web site and they don't list a part number for the 6.0 Ford diesel, so if you guys can pass it our way that would be some help instead of relieing on a web site or someone on the phone telling you they dont make them........
