It looks like a m/c solenoid (mixture control solenoid).

I think it's part of the emissions system.

that is the Fuel Mixture control solenoid, as previously stated.

The computer controls the fuel mixture, from a reading on a O2 sensor located in the exaust manifold.

Depending on the readings from the O2 sensor, the computer adjusts the fuel mixture on the carb accordingly, to get the best possible fuel mixture ratio.

The Carb will not run an engine without it attached. And the Carb will perform poorly, with the computer unplugged from the solenoid, or the o2 sensor being faulty or disconnected.

Hope this helps

You could either make a block plate or just leave the solenoid on.

Or, find another carb made without that solenoid.

I ran my truck with the m/c solenoid not working for about a year.

It ran OK.

You really need to buy a new carb, that does not have that solenoid if you are going to remove the computer from the truck.

That carb with the solenoid, without inputs from the computer, with or without the solenoid blocked off, will not run very well, and give you poor mileage.

You can adjust some of it out, using the fuel mixture screw, but it still wont run as good as a Carb without the solenoid.

Most Pre 1980 carbs without feedback solenoids will work, and a duraspark II distributor, and ignition module would work great for you.
