Today I got the I-beams and disk brakes Off of a 1979 f-250. my problem is that the f-250 has 8 lug pattern. I want to convert my 72 f-100 to disks brakes. Can I get rotors off a f-100/150 and put them on the spindels off the 250, or do I need to go back to the salvge and get f-100/150 parts instead. I need some information.

My book shows different parts for what your talking about.
It seperates the 73-75 vs the 76-79 parts.

I can hardly wait until I get my interchange book.

I suggest getting the spindles and brake parts from the F-150.
Because I know there are the same.

I do not care if the parts interchange betwen the 73-79. I want to put 79 ford f-100 rotars on a 79 f-250 spindel, will it work.

I believe the 250 beams are heavier than the 150's. The quickest way to know if the spindles will fit is to ask at your local autoparts store if the king pin kits are the same. If so, you're probably in luck. Don't forget you need the proportioning valve off the donor truck to go with the disc brakes. mike

Why on earth would you get F-250 parts for your F-100 in the first place. I am pretty sure they will not fit, if they are the Daul piston caliper kind. If they are the standard single-piston caliper kind, I don't think checking to see if the kingpins are the same will help, cause F-100 through F-250 used the same ones, '75 to '79 used a different size than the 65-74 type, but that isn't relevant to the question. You might check to see if they use the same rotor bearings. Personaly, I don't think it will work, period, because the caliper mount is probably not lined-up the same, because I think the F-250 rotors are larger.

P.S. just wondering, how hard was it getting the junk yard to get all that stuff out for you, and how much did it cost. I was wanting to do the same thing, but I will get F-100 parts the first time.

Sorry bout the problems, Matt

I swapped the j-yard some sheetmetal for all the parts off a 78 F250 truck to put under my 66 F250. It is not that hard to pull the front end off I am able to do it in 39 minutes in the j-yard lot. The best way to see if the rotors will work is to measure the diameter and to the cross the bearing sizes with the F150 rotor's the bearings will have a different inside diameter between the two trucks but the outside might be the same. Go to your local parts house with a michrometer and have them pull both sets of bearings and measure your self.

I have the single piston caliper disks from the f-250. The reason I got f-250 parts is because they were free. I could not beat that price. and it took about 45 min to pull the parts. I did check bearing between the two trucks. They are exactly the same. But since the king pin size is diffent do I need to use the I beams from the 79 for truck. I will check the diameter of the rotors next. Thanks for the info.

I have a 1969 Ford F100 4x2 that I am converting from manual drums to power disc brakes. I purchased the kit from Master Power Brakes. It's pricey - about $1,000.00 but comes complete with the rotors & calipers assembled to the spindle. Also has the new hoses, master cylinder, and power brake booster.

I lately did a google for 'ford truck parts interchange book"
and came up with Two books.
One goes from 59-70 and other goes from 89-97.
I can't seem to find the 67-79 Book that i saw listed tucked away somewhere.
Maybe I'll check my net history.

OK I have found the anser to my question. The f-250 spindels are about a 1/4 inch to tall, the bearings the calipers and the brake pads are all the same though.

Hey Matt67, don't know about where you live, but the junkyards around here are not surprised by anything. The one I go to has gotten so used to me asking for crazy parts that they don't even ask what I am trying to put it on anymore Seriously though, when I converted my 72 over to disk brakes I went to the junkyard and told them I needed the entire front suspension off of a 1976 I had seen on a previous visit there that looked to be in real good shape. The engine, radiator, fenders, etc were already gone so I was able to check the suspension out good. They lifted the front of the truck with a wrecker, took a torch and cut the frame rails just forward of the firewall, torched the lines running to the back brakes and anything else that was holding the front clip on. The took a forklift and set the entire front clip in the back of my truck. Price was $100 and I got more than I had bargained for. I wouldn't recommend asking a junkyard to torch a perfectly good frame, but make sure you get all the parts you think you will need. If you find a good junkyard they are probably already familiar with this swap and will know what you need.
