Need advice
I am new to the forum and just purchased a 2000 Excursion 7.3 Diesel with the tow package.
It is a fine piece of machinery except for one problem I may be having. The transmission functions properly except in one area, the transmission, TCC.
The converter will lock and disengage at the proper speeds and functions well except for one problem.
At speeds of 50 and above, if I let off the throttle and then accelerate again, the clutch will stay engaged throughout and not disengage, it acts like a standard transmission. However when I let off the throttle and tap the brake, the clutch will release as it should but then when I take my foot of the brake the clutch will engage again even if I give it no throttle and I feel a jerk as the clutch engages the transmission while coasting.
Is not the converter clutch supposed to stay disengaged and stay in coast mode until the engine is throttled up again or is it supposed to hook up even while coasting and with no throttle?
Also there is a dealer label under the hood stating that the PCM has been upgrade flashed in 2001
I am enjoying the X and I hope this is not bad news. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for the time, L Smith
You'll find everything you need to know about your X and then some....
Please take the time to read the "Read First" at the top of this and other forums.
As for your problem, I don't know what to tell you. But if you PM me your VIN, I can have an OASIS report done to find out why such a thing was done. However, without looking at the report I can make an educated guess that either the transmission or the engine were replaced. Those are main reason's why any of the 2000-2003 7.3, V10, or 5.4 Excursions would ever need to be reflashed. Get me the VIN as soon as you can and I'll get things moving.
