Shed Fire

I woke up this morning to find I had a shed fire while I was out yesterday evening working on a mates rod.

Slow combustion stove which was just smoldering when I left must have put out enough heat to set the kindling piled near it off, which set off the wood pile another couple of feet away....and up she went.

The Fire Brigade responded at 5 last night to calls from the neighbours and managed to save most of my stuff.

The front wall of the shed is gone and parts of the roof are badly damaged.

The F-1 is a bit crispy in places, with the fiberglass guards blistered and the filler and primer peeling in a few spots on the firewall, roof and cowl.

Will add a few weeks extra work, but it beats what could have happened.

All in all, I was bloody lucky. Looks like I came REAL close to loosing the lot.

Hopefully the house insurance will cover most of the damage to the shed.....haven't rung them yet.

No insurance on the F-1.......it was on my todo list

The moral to this story....MAKE SURE THE FIREPLACE IS FULLY OUT BEFORE LEAVING.

Link too some pictures to follow

Glad you didn't lose your truck and no one was hurt. Sounds like you owe the neighbors a few beers!

I haven't worked out yet which neighbour I owe a beer, I share a boundary with 11 others.

Dealing with the insurance company, contracters etc will probably take a month or so, plus at least two to three weeks to redo the primer etc

But the good news is, as everyone says, nobody was hurt and the truck survived.

My nine year old will be upset about loosing his trainset.........

That is a major bummer! I am very glad that no one was hurt in the process!

It sounds like your truck came through it fairly well, hopefully the repairs to it aren't too bad. It sucks to lose a train set! My boy would be broken hearted too.

Your posting reminded me to go out and get a fire extinguisher for my garage. Its been on my todo list for quite some time.

Good luck with the repairs
Bobby

As you can see the shed is a bit tortured, but quiet repareable.

The F-1 is a bit blistered in places and probably needs to go back to bare metal in the areas affected, but all in all I was bloody lucky

That's what I was thinking.

A small shed, maybe 8'x10', or 9'x12'; something like that.

Looks like a good size "shed".

You were very lucky! Apparently the firefighters down there aren't as zealous as the ones around here; they do more damage than the fire in many cases!

And your case reminded me to get off my butt and put comprehensive coverage (fire/theft/vandalism) on my 52... Homeowner's insurance won't cover vehicles even if in the garage!

Not much at the moment.......but the plan is it will have the goods to help the truck keep out of it's own way

......and have another look at the photos.....where is the dizzy ?

That's not orange, it's "Ford Red" which they used on truck motors, among other things, down here.

The cal custom covers make it look BBCish, but it's a 351C

It's 33' x 55'.

Down here we seem to use the term "shed" to cover everything from a 8' x 4' Garden Shed through to factories covering multiple acres.

There is a very cool book out called "blokes and their sheds", which is a very good description of the symbiotic relationship between the Aussie male and his patch of paradise in the back yard.

Unfortunately mine must have been too pathetically smal to make it into the book........
